Dougherty had 41 tackles and 2 sacks on the year. Skrocki led the team with 76 tackles and 5.5 sacks. Hansen through for 1,004 yards on 86 completions, and he threw for 6 touchdowns. According to head coach Chris Nelson, Hansen is the first player in East Jordan history to throw for over 1,000 yards in a season. Castle contributed on both sides of the ball this season. He rushed for 404 yards on 86 carries and had 4 rushing touchdowns. He also caught 1 touchdown and had 244 receiving yards on 24 receptions. On defense, Castle had 38 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 interception. First year head coach Chris Nelson lamented the fact that he had to say goodbye to his seniors. "I told them it's too bad we can't turn a program around in one year," he said. "I wish I had more than one year to work with them." Looking back on the season, Nelson saw definite improvement from the Ô06 campaign, when the Red Devils went 0-9. "I'm proud of where we've come from a season ago. We met as a team early in the season before practice started, and we formulated team goals. We ended up accomplishing three out of five of them." One of those goals was to work together as a team, and Nelson said that was one goal his team definitely achieved. "This group never gave up," he said. "They constantly worked hard no matter the score or the time left." Looking forward to next season, Nelson expects his sophomores and juniors to step into the roles that are being vacated by the likes of Skrocki, Hansen and Dougherty. "It's tough to see the seniors go, but that creates opportunities for the sophomores and juniors to step up," he said. "We need to see dedication that we haven't seen before, and that is what's going to make or break us. "With our conference, we have to work harder than anyone else to compete. The kids know that, but they have to answer the call."
