BOYNE CITY - Two performance nights and two sell-outs equal alive-and-kicking performing arts at Boyne City Public Schools.
A feast for the palate created by students from the school district's "Team Hospitality" was followed by a feast for the eyes and ears at the high school auditorium on Wednesday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, Nov. 10. The event, "Boyne Meets Broadway! Dinner Theater" is a major fundraiser for the drama department.
The school's impressive Jazz Combo was a perfect accompaniment to the full-course dinner and the soft lighting and thoughtful decorative touches provided an intimate setting. Of special interest was the artistic creation of a flock of geese in airborne formation that was stationed above the diners.
At the show, talented students sang and danced with boundless energy. The repertoire included selections from "Guys and Dolls," "Chorus Line" "Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat," "Hairspray" and more.
The choreography by Jodi Adgate with assistance from Lane McCarry was splendid throughout the many selections. Chorus Line numbers treated the audience to dancers' kicks, jumps and twirls, while other free-spirited numbers combined with streams of colorful stage lighting created mystical performances.
The evening included a special acknowledgement of Veterans Day and of the veterans in the audience. Bob Wollenberg, assistant director of the show, read the names and branch of military service as each veteran made their way on stage to the enthusiastic applause of the audience. The 1960s song "Soldier Boy" was sung by students to the veterans.
The Boyne City High School spring musical is "Anything Goes!" Performances are March 8 and 9 and March 14 and 15. Tickets will be available soon at Boyne Country Books.
