Gerald Harold Mapes



Gerald Harold Mapes, age 85, of Boyne City, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at Boulder Park Terrace in Charlevoix. Gerald was born on Oct. 27, 1921, in Boyne City, the son of Burly and Emma (Coblentz) Mapes. On Sept. 11, 1948, he married Charlotte Sabin who survives. Gerald served in the 29th Division of the United States Army Airforce during WWII. He then worked for Top O'Michigan for thirty-nine years and later for Wolverine Power for six years until he retired in 1984. Gerald was also a member of the Boyne City American Legion.

Gerald is survived by his wife Charlotte; sons, Garry (Cheryl) Mapes of Boyne City, Clifford (Kathy) Mapes of Gaylord and Jeffery (Lori) Mapes of Boyne City; seven grandchildren, Wade, Nathan, Amber, Trevor, Nicole, Abby and Ethen; greatgrandchildren, Cota and Taton; sisters, Geneva Reynolds and Betty Spiegel; brother-in-law, Walter Charon; sister-in-law, Luella Mapes, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen Charon, and brothers, Richard, Racil and Ralph Mapes.

A memorial service was held on Sunday, Oct. 21, at Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Boyne City.

Burial will take place at Maple Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of fllowers memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of NW Michigan.

Stackus Funeral Home of Boyne City is serving the family.
