Norman Dixon Hastings



Norman Dixon Hastings, 84, of Boyne City, died Oct. 6, 2007, at his home.

He was born Dec. 8, 1922, in Boyne City, the son of Osmond and Minnie (Dixon) Hastings.

On June 26, 1942 he married Marie 'Mary' Hersey in Berkley, Mich. They made their home in Rochester where they owned and operated Culligan Soft Water of Rochester for 53 years. They moved to Boyne City in 2000.

Norm was a veteran of WWII, serving as a sergeant in grave registration for the U.S. Army in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters. He was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Boyne City. For many years he was a member of the Rochester Lions Club and Rochester Elk Lodge #2225. Norm enjoyed reading, golf, his cats Mikey and Missy, and feeding the wildlife around his home.

Surviving are his wife Mary, son, Norman (Lynn) Hastings of Boyne City; grandchildren, Holli Michele Kirk and Kyle David Sutphin; sister, Marvel Rock of Berkley; daughter-inlaw, Patsy Hastings; several nieces and nephews and good friends Bob Musgrave and Ralph Nothhelfer. He was preceded by a daughter Suzanne Hastings and sister Marcia Green.

Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at St. Matthew Church in Boyne City with the Rev. Frank Partridge officiating. Friends may call at the church Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. A vigil service was held Tuesday.
