BOYNE CITY - By midday on the first full day of the school year, kindergarten students at Boyne City Elementary were into the swing of academia. The playground was a blur of bright colors and bodies in motion as the new students took to recess like seasoned pros. There was a swarm of activity on the jungle gym and a set of impressive hoopsters had commandeered the basketball court for a spirited game.
Notable only by its absence was any hint of discontent. The only mishap was a harmless tumble caused by an untied shoelace, which was quickly rectified by a smiling teacher.
A short poll of the day's highlights revealed that recess was, so far, the favorite activity, with lunch a close second.
