Obituaries PUBLISHED: Marty was a resident of Boyne City from 1960 to 1990, moving to Mason, then Seattle, Wash., where he spent the last 11 years of his wonderful life. Marty was born in New Castle, Penn.; spent many years in Chicago, Ill., and Missouri before moving to Boyne City. Marty was active as president in organizing the UAW and retired from Courter Products in 1975. He was also very active in the local Democratic Party, serving as a commissioner for both Boyne City and Charlevoix County. Throughout his life, Marty chaired or was a member of many civic and community boards. He always gave more of himself than was asked and was considered a role model by all who knew him. Marty had a great sense of humor, loved his family, traveling, reading, classical music and was passionate regarding any endeavor he was involved in. He was a conscientious objector during World War II and served in the medical corps, spending the last months of the war in France. He is survived by daughter, Cecilia Paul (Harry Reinert) of Seattle, Wash.; son, John (Dee) Paul of Cavalier, N.D.; son, Lawrence (Susan) Paul of Mason; son, Robert Paul of Boyne City; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his devoted spouse of 57 years, Gertrude (2003), son James (1977), and grandson James (1998). A funeral service will be held 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, at Stackus Funeral Home, with visitation being held from 4 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Maple Lawn Cemetery.
