Local News PUBLISHED: For every dollar spent at BoyneThunder events Friday and Saturday, July 20 and 21, the festival gives 100 percent of the proceeds, after administrative expenses, to Camp Quality. The funds collected, last year it was about $35,000, help support programs that give children with cancer the opportunity to join in on many fun experiences and to make new friends. The 4th annual BoyneThunder Poker Run is hosted by the city's Main Street Program. The kickoff on Friday at the public marina features food and entertainment. High-performance offshore boats from across the Midwest form teams and take to Lake Charlevoix. From Boyne City the boats continue on to Charlevoix, Beaver Island, Harbor Springs, Bay Harbor and then back to Boyne City. Saturday's Thunder Feast brings boaters and the community together for a cookout with live entertainment at Veterans Memorial Park, followed by a walking "Pub Crawl." Eleanor West is the director of Camp Quality and says the proceeds from the BoyneThunder events are a great benefit for the kids. "It's one of our larger events and helps us reach out to more children and their families," West said. "Everyone benefits from it." So far, 67 children have been signed up to attend Camp Quality held at Camp Daggett, Aug. 12-18. Other events at the BoyneThunder festival include a Lake Charlevoix Cruise, a unique walk-about auction and an antique boat show. New this year is a performance of an Aerial Water Ski team.
