Local News PUBLISHED:
Michigan Director of Camp Quality Eleanor West announced a $10,000 donation from Karma is Action, a yoga-based fund raising organization which uses the charitable capacity of the yoga community to raise money for children suffering from life-threatening diseases and the environmental causes which contribute to those diseases. "It feels like Christmas. Wonderful and uplifting that all of our volunteers and supporters are being recognized by others," West said. "It sure is humbling and a real honor for Camp Quality of Michigan. We try to make a difference in these children's lives and it looks like we are as others help us with our mission." West was notified on Mother's Day about the contribution from Kathryn Keown Banks, founder of Karma is Action. The organization is located in Sausalito, CA. In March, more than 400 yoga students from around the country started a "yoga challenge" committing to as many yoga classes as possible within a 30-day period. They asked their family and friends to sponsor them financially as they completed their own personal goals. The students were aware the money raised would help children with life-threatening diseases around the country. "We believe that camps such as Camp Quality so perfectly represent the yogic philosophy that we do not know what life will place in our path, but we can enjoy the journey of life here and now," Banks commented. "The literal meaning of the word karma is action. So by taking action, we can affect the nature of our lives and those around us."
