The women's overall winner was Laura Alsager of Mount Pleasant. She completed the grueling event in a time of 1:35.08.

Participants came from as far away as Palm Desert, Calif. and Virginia (Catlett and Norfolk). They included an amputee, Scott Bassett, as well as Mark Colburn, who survived a skydiving accident when he plummeted 2,000 feet to earth after another skydriver shot through his deployed parachute.

Colburn spent months in a coma.

Gary Lee, a 70-year old Traverse City resident, ran the race after having double knee replacement surgery a couple of years ago.
