Cordell Lester Cambric, 53, allegedly set the fire on April 22, that destroyed the house at 2082 Timber Ridge Trail. The fire spread to nearby woods with flames reaching high into the air. Three fire departments and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources were involved in fighting the blaze.

No one was injured. Cambric waived a preliminary examination in district court and on June 5 was bound over to circuit court. He has received a court-appointed attorney, Christopher Turkelson. Cambric is incarcerated in the Charlevoix County jail with bond set at $200,000.

The Charlevoix County Prosecutor's Office has charged Cambric with three counts. Count one is arson of a dwelling, a 20-year felony, count two is arson of insured property with intent to defraud the insurance company, a 10-year felony, and count three is a charge of habitual offender. Past convictions are for burglary and possession of controlled substances.
