Arthur J. Gerard



Arthur J. Gerard, age 84, of Conway, Ark., passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2007.

He was born on Sept. 14, 1922, in Grand Rapids, Mich., but grew up in East Jordan where he graduated from East Jordan High School. He was a graduate of Michigan State University and a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.

Mr. Gerard retired as major from the Air Force, served during WWII and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of the 379th Bomb Group WWII Association.

He lived in Lansing for several years and was actively involved in the founding of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

After moving to Conway in 1973, he once again became active at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4143, serving as state chairman of the Special Olympics for 10 years.

He was employed with FMC Corporation for 31 years, retired as advertising manager, and earned many distinguishing awards.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Florence E. Gerard of Conway; daughter, Jacqueline F. Gerard of Lansing; son, Dennis J. Gerard and wife Andrea of Huntington Beach, Calif.; daughter, Cynthia M. Gerard of Frisco, Texas; son, Thomas A. Gerard and wife Theresa of Conway; two grandchildren, Susan Gerard and Michael Gerard, both of Conway.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Anthony Gerard, and son, William J. Gerard.

Mass of Christian Burial was Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Nguyen, C.S.Sp., M.Div. as celebrant.

Interment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park with full military honors.

Pallbearers were Rudy Ballheimer, Butch Schichtl, Ed Schichtl, Greg Schichtl, Robert Schichtl, and John Zopolos.
