Oh, happy day

BOYNE CITY - One student waiting in cap and gown to enter Boyne City High School's gymnasium described graduation day as a "big relief." Another student said the day was "nerve-wracking," but every graduate looked happy as they exited the gymnasium after graduation ceremonies Sunday.

Valedictorian, Lindsay Baic, spoke to her fellow graduates about the lessons learned above and beyond basic studies. "The other lessons we've learned are about responsibility, respect, communication, and teamwork," Baic said. Responsibility includes being responsible for yourself, respect means to respect elders, peers and self, listening is key in communication and teamwork teaches important interaction, Baic said.

Salutatorian Emilee Moeke told her peers she was "overcome with dread" when she learned she would have to speak at the graduation ceremony. But, she learned that giving in to that emotion may cause her to not try. "We must focus on the rewards, because there are no rewards if one doesn't try," she said.

School district superintendent, Bob Alger, encouraged the 94 graduates to grasp new opportunities. "Keep your eyes, heart and mind wide open, take chances and don't be afraid to fail," Alger said.
