Skrocki sets LMC meet record in 100 hurdles

KALKASKA - Ashley Skrocki is good now. Imagine how much better she could be in two years, when she's a senior at East Jordan High School. The thought strikes fear in the hearts of many Lake Michigan Conference runners who go against her in the 100-meter high hurdles and 300-meter low hurdles.

East Jordan coach Dennis Snarey is hoping that she hasn't reached her peak yet, nor that she will quit working hard to get her times down.

Skrocki recorded an LMC meet record in winning the 100-meter high hurdles last Wednesday, May 23 at Kalkaska's track when she finished first in a time of 15.24 seconds.

East Jordan was fifth overall with 60 points. Charlevoix scored 145 points for first, and Boyne City took second with 123. Harbor Springs came in third with 91.

Kristi Werner, a senior, also had a fine day for the Red Devils. She placed third in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:20. Snarey's challenge next year will be finding another solid distance runner.

Alicia Oliver reached the finals of the pole vault and wound up taking fourth place, clearing 7 feet. The Red Devils' 3200-meter relay team of Werner, Kaitlin Keane, Oliver and Meghan Thomas finished third with a time of 10:29.87. Thomas, a junior, also took a fourth place in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:40.24.

In the boys' meet, East Jordan finished seventh with 30 points. Charlevoix took first with 160.5, Harbor Springs second with 105 and Kalkaska third with 101.

East Jordan's highest individual finish was a second place by Travis Nachazel in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.43 seconds.
