But, that wasn't any surprise to Boyne City girls track coach Andy Place. He's become used to expecting the best out of his senior leader. She certainly didn't disappoint him, or the Ramblers' fans on what turned out to be a comfortable day for a track meet. Since she's been winning her events so consistently all season, it would have been a shock to the fans if Bell had come away without doing the same at the regional meet despite the hightened pressure and steep competition. The fans' confidence in their star was well placed, as Bell had one of her best days for the Ramblers, speeding to victories in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Bell hit the finish line in the 100 with a time of 12.5 seconds, and beat the field in the 200 with a time of 26 seconds flat. Caitlyn Wonski also picked up a gold medal for the Ramblers in the pole vault, when she cleared the bar at a height of 9 feet, 2 inches. The Ramblers' 1600-meter relay team picked up a regional championship with a first-place finish in a time of 4:19, and will be going to state. Jessica Nichols also qualified for the state meet in two events for the Ramblers, taking a second place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13 seconds flat while she finished second in the 3oo-meter low hurdles with a time of 47.4 seconds. The state finals are Saturday, June 2. |
