It proved beyond a doubt that depth plays a huge role in a team's success in track and field. The more athletes a team can place in each event, the better.

One day, the host school envisions having just such depth. But, for now, the Red Devils of the Lake Michigan Conference will have to remain patient and build for the future.

While the Rayders of Charlevoix were compiling 112 points to easily defeat Benzie Central, which finished second with 87.5, and Boyne City (third with 74), the Red Devils continued to see growth in the program. The Red Devils didn't come away empty handed, though.

Ashley Skrocki, a young competitor with still untapped potential, qualified for the state championships on Saturday, June 2, with a second place finish in the 100meter high hurdles with a time of 15.7 seconds.

She'll be joined at state by temmate Kristi Werner, thanks to her fourth place in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:08.

Charlevoix also won the boys regional, scoring 133.5 points. Kingsley was second with 112 and Kalkaska third with 71.

No one from East Jordan qualified for state.
