Swordsmen cut Loggers
Ê Mathers fanned seven batters, walked one and gave up five hits in six innings of work, but he was hit with the loss when Harbor Light Christian defeated Boyne Falls 7-2 in the first game on Monday, Apr. 21.

The Swordsmen scored four runs in the opening inning and added three more in the fifth to gain the win. Boyne Falls scored one in the first and one in the fifth.

"Offensively I think we did a good job of hitting and moving runners when we had the chance. Harbor Light has some pretty fine pitching," said Fiel. "Defensively we had three errors that really hurt. They did not have an earned run against us."

Patrick Hood was two for three with a triple and two RBI, while Mathers went one for three with a double to lead the Boyne Falls hitters.

The Loggers pushed across a pair of runs in the third inning of the second game and tied the contest at 2-2, but neither team was able to score in the next three innings.

The game was called in the top of the seventh inning when Hood and David Gross collided in the outfield and were unable to continue. Both players suffered concussions as a result of the impact. Hood also suffered a broken nose. The coaches agreed to suspend the game.

At the plate Mathers had two hits and two RBI, and Justin Grubaugh had a double, while Deming, Fiel, and Simon all singled.

Boyne Falls (3-3-2 overall, 1-1-2 Northern Lakes Conference) will host Wolverine on Thursday, May 1.
