Ê EAST JORDAN - The defense is where it needs to be. Now if the offense could just put some goals in the back of the net, East Jordan might be able to add to their win column.

A day after suffering a 6-0 defeat at Harbor Springs to the Rams on Monday, the Red Devils hosted the Kalkaska Blazers on Tuesday. They limited the Blazers to only one goal, but unfortunately that was one more than they scored and lost 1-0.

The Blazers' goal came near the end of the first half. East Jordan had opportunities to tie the game, but couldn't capitalize.

"Unfortunately, we had some great opportunities but misfired and sailed the ball past the net," East Jordan head coach Peter Elliott said.Ê"Fullback Briana Sladick stepped up her play in the second half stopping Kalkaska's attack earlier to keep the pressure on them.

Ê"This was a very physical game that gave the crowd much to cheer for as we many times came very close scoring.Ê The ladies played with lots of heart and pressed hard right down to the end of play."

Maribeth Poindexter continued her stellar play in goal for the Red Devils. She stopped 41 shots against Harbor Springs and made 14 saves against Kalkaska.

Katherine Rowley led a balanced attack against Kalkaska in a game that saw four Red Devils get shots on goal.

On Thursday, April 24, East Jordan hosted Elk Rapids and held the high-powered Elk offense to just one goal. But, again, they couldn't score themselves and fell by a score of 1-0.

"This was a fast paced game that gave the crowd much to cheer about.ÊI am very proud of the effort the ladies gave we stayed in a game with a very tough team," Elliott said.

Poindexter took the best that the Elks had to offer. She tallied 35 saves.

"Maribeth Poindexter did an outstanding job in goal tonight," Elliott said. "She held her ground and stopped many tough shots.ÊAll the lines worked very hard to stop Elk Rapids and move the ball forward for the attack.

"Katherine Rowley led the attack with Trista Karlskin and Whitney Kraemer pitching in to make many exciting runs.ÊPaige Fuller and April Wakeham also did a good job in the midfield, winning the ball many times. Rachel Mumich and Sheneya Argetsinger both played hard in the fullback line making good plays to send the ball forward."

East Jordan was at home against Boyne City on Monday and Burt Lake on Tuesday. On Thursday they host Charlevoix, and on Monday they travel to TC Liberty. They are back at home on Thursday and host Glen Lake.
