Senior Lindsay Baic was satisfied with the scoring. She plays baritone sax in the band and will attend Adrian College on a music scholarship. ÒI definitely think we deserved it,Ó Baic said. "We worked really hard."

Band director Brandon Ivie said the wins are huge for the bands. The last time the high school received the honor was 1985, and it was 1993 when the middle school won, he said.

"I'm very proud of what the kids have done and weÕre setting greater expectations for bands in the future," Ivie said.

About 40 school bands from the northern Michigan area competed in the festival. The bands played three prepared pieces and sight-read two pieces, with seven minutes to prepare.
