Ralph Mapes



Ralph E. Mapes, 79, of Charlevoix, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at his home.

The funeral was held Friday, Feb. 2, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix. The Reverend David Behling officiated, and burial will take place in the spring at the Undine Cemetery in Hayes Twp.

Ralph was born July 15, 1927, in Boyne City, the son of Burley and Emma (Coblentz) Mapes. During WWII, Ralph served in Japan as a corporal in the U.S. Army. He married Luella DeJonge on Oct. 15, 1966, in Boyne City. In 1989, Ralph retired from the McLaughlin Company in Petoskey. He enjoyed reading and woodworking, and loved gardening. Ralph is survived by his wife, Luella of Charlevoix; children, Mike (Mary) Mapes of Boyne City, Joyce (Andy) Rowbotham of Charlevoix, Karen McCary of Boyne Falls, Rick (Cheryl) Mapes of Cadillac; grandchildren, Mark (Becky) Rowbotham, Julie Rowbotham, Brian Mapes, Jason McCary, Shawn Kilmer, Logan Patrick; great-grandchildren, Debbie, Katie and Angie Rowbotham, Matthew and Zach Szafranski; brother, Gerald (Charlotte) Mapes of Boyne City; sisters, Betty Speigl of Boyne City, Geneva Reynolds of Lakewood, Calif.; brother-in-law, Walter Charon of Boyne City. Ralph's son Robert, brothers Richard and Racil, and sister, Helen Charon, preceded him in death.
