Skiers perform well at meet



BOYNE CITY - The Harbor Springs boys varsity ski team was first with 41 points and the Harbor Springs girls took first with 69 points in the second Lake Michigan Conference meet held at Boyne Mountain on Thursday, Jan. 11.

Local finishers in the boys competition included:

Boyne City - Kaleb McNamara (3rd S, 4th GS), Joe Shear (11th S, 13 GS), Nick Simiri (12th S, 3rd GS), Tom Hague (15th S, 16th GS), Ryan Witten (18th, S) and Ryan Kasper (21st S), Mike Cortwright (9th GS), Sterling Adgate (10 GS).

Charlevoix/East Jordan - Nic Williams (6th S, 21st GS), Mac Brennan (7th, S 5th GS), Tanner Fisher (10th S, 23rd GS), Zack Smith (23rd S), Geoff Baier (25th S, 20 GS), Michael Cardwell (27th S, 19th GS).

Local finishers in the girls competition included:

Boyne City - Alex Welborn (3rd S, 3rd GS), Christina Roland (4th, GS), Jessica Grice (8th S, 11th GS), Natalie Lindsay (14th S, 13th GS) Allison Wright (23rd S), Morgan Harding (15th GS).

Charlevoix/East Jordan - Katherine Rowley (6th S, 1st GS), Liz Hasseld (8th GS), Steffy Poindexter (16th S, 17th GS), Haley Crick (18th S, 18th GS), Amanda Fritsch (22nd GS), Mary Gocha (24th GS).

Boyne CityÕs Cortwright and Char/EJÕs Emily Baijko won the boys and girls B slalom race, while Witten and Baijko won the boys and girls B GS.

Nubs Nob will be the site for the next conference meet on Thursday, Jan. 25.
